Queensberry Properties has been awarded a grant for the repair and restoration of 1-3 Musselburgh Road. The initial phase of restoration work has involved the consolidation of the structure which is in poor condition. Some demolition work has been necessary as part of the building was in danger of collapse.
This important listed building dates from the late 18th century and the restoration work involves the repair of the stone walls, the repair and reinstatement of the roof and chimneys, the roof covering will be in natural clay pantiles and slate to match the orginal and a lime based render and colour wash on the elevation facing onto Musselburgh road.New sash and case windows will be provided in the original openings to match the original design with new stone surrounds, again to match the original.
An important part of the grant programme is training and education in traditional building skills and conservation. Queensberry Properties have agreed to participate in the training plan and have 3 Midlothian Training Services Trainees on site learning and practising stone repair and lime pointing techniques.
